The Xiaomi Mi 8 is the Chinese manufacturer’s latest flagship smartphone.

At its 8th anniversary celebrations Xiaomi announced a brand new smartphone called the Mi 8.

The latest flagship was unveiled a Press Conference in Beijing on Thursday and again it shares very familiar characteristics with Apple’s premium model, the iPhone X.

The Chinese brand claims that the handset blows competitors out of the water in the famous AnTutu performance index, jumping into the lead with a score surpassing 300,000.

The phone also storms its way into the DxOMark photo and video quality benchmark with a score of 99, placing it just behind the Huawei P20 Pro and the HTC U12+, on par with the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, and ahead of Apple’s iPhone X.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 has a 6.21-inch (2248 x 1080-pixel) AMOLED screen with a borderless design and a notch-style cutout. It is powered by a latest-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and 6GB RAM, and has a rear-facing dual camera (2x12MP) with integrated AI to recognize the kind of photo being taken and instantly optimize the results. This one works just like the iPhone X’s dual cameras: a main 12-megapixel shooter with f/1.8 aperture and a secondary 2x optical zoom lens with f/2.4 aperture. Tucked in the notch is a 20-megapixel selfie camera with f/1.8 aperture.

The phone will be available in three different versions; a compact Xiaomi Mi 8 SE , the standard Mi 8, and a premium Mi 8 Explorer Edition – the trio ostensibly rivalling the iPhone SE, iPhone 8 and iPhone X, respectively.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 is due to release in China on June 5, and the compact Mi 8 SE is due to be released a couple of days later on June 8.

However, while some may have positive reviews, others have mixed reaction to the identical design.
