The Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has revealed that it has officially launched Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) in Nigeria’s Enugu State. This move will allow the nation to switch over from analogue to digital broadcasting.
In attendance at the launch of the Digital Switch Over (DSO) was the Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. In a surprise announcement, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi promised to buy 10,000 set-top boxes. These are intended to be distributed to residents of Enugu rural communities, which will enable them to have access to the digital world.
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi said rural dwellers in the 475 communities in Enugu State would benefit from the set-top boxes as they have not had access to digital equipment.
“Our goal is to ensure that the less privileged have access to digital broadcasting,” he said. The governor also revealed that 100 set-top boxes presented to him by the Minister of Culture and Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, at the occasion would be handed over to the security agencies in the state.
