On Sunday 1 October 2017 in Las Vegas, USA, a gunman opened fire at concert killing at least 50 people while also injuring more than 100 others.

The shooting took place near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino where country singer Jason Aldean was performing outside the hotel at Route 91 Harvest, a country music festival.

According to a report from the New York Times, immediately after the shooting several SWAT teams were sent to the hotel as the first reports of the shooting came in at 10:08 pm. As the officers arrived they were pinned down by gunfire and the just before midnight the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that “one suspect is down,” and soon thereafter the police said they did not believe there were any more active gunmen.

Sheriff Joseph Lombardo of Clark County told reporters early Monday morning that 50 people were killed and more than 200 injured. He also identified the gunman as Stephen Paddock (64) and confirming that the police were seeking “a companion” named Marilou Danley, a woman he described as Asian and 4-foot-11.
