Visa has announced a strategic partnership with JamboPay that will enable 3,000 more merchants to accept mVisa payments, further enhancing mobile commerce in Kenya. Consumers will be able to use Visa’s mobile payment solution at restaurants and supermarkets and to pay for amenities such as water, as well as key services offered by county governments under JamboPay.
“Visa’s partnership with JamboPay is key to the expansion of mVisa in Kenya, says Sunny Walia, General Manager, East Africa for Visa. Now, more consumers and merchants will experience the speed, convenience and security that mVisa brings when buying groceries, getting a coffee, paying their water bill or securing government services online.”
“Each of JamboPay’s merchants will be issued with a QR code that customers can simply scan to make a payment directly from their bank at no transaction cost. Consumers can also make their payment using a USSD code giving them the ability to send money anywhere that mVisa is accepted across the globe,” he added.
JamboPay, founded in 2009, is a Kenyan based innovative electronic payments service that serves over 3,000 clients in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Senegal. The growing company offers a wide range of services including e-government payments processing, e-bills payments, e-commerce payments processing, supply chain payments automation, retail payments and electronic funds disbursements.
Key Kenyan merchants that will now be able to accept mVisa payments through this partnership include Java, Nairobi Water, Nairobi County Government, MP Shah Hospital, Uchumi, Chandarana, Naivas and Kenya Buzz.
