Kenya: Court reinstates Communication Authority board.

According to a media statement, the Industrial Court has reinstated the board of directors of the Communication Authority, pending the hearing of an appeal challenging their ouster.

In his ruling, Industrial Court Judge Nelson Abuodha, ruled that the Ministry of ICT could not recruit a new board of directors since an appeal contesting the ouster of the existing board was still pending in court.

The board was disbanded in May 2015, after the court ruled that it had been constituted illegally. The reinstated directors include Wilbert Kipsang Choge, Kennedy Monchere, Grace Mwendwa, Levi Obonyo, Helen Kinoti, Beatrice Opee and Peter Munywoki.

According to citizentv.co.ke, it was Choge who filed an appeal following their ouster that has culminated in their reinstatement. Lack of a board has over the period complicated the operations of the communications authority.

The ICT Ministry had already shortlisted 28 candidates to form a new board with two of the ousted members said to have made the cut.
