Many Africans who grew up in the eighties and nineties will remember the hoverboard from the smash hit trilogy, Back to the Future.
While many of us have dreamed of owing one at the time, the technology sector was just not advanced enough to offer something that technologically advanced.
However, fast forward to 2015 and Lexus has finally shown off a real, working hoverboard. While it may not been an exact replica of the hoverboard featured in back to the future, it is most certainly a step in the right direction.
According to Lexus, the hoverboard relies on superconductors and magnets, which repel the force of gravity, to lift the board. Lexus also revealed that the smoke coming out of the hoverboard is actually liquid nitrogen fumes. The liquid nitrogen is used to cool the superconductors. In the video, featured below, professional skateboarder Ross McGouran takes the Lexus hoverboard for a ride.
