Airtel Tanzania has appointed Juma Mwapachu as its new chairman. Mwapachu is the immediate past Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC). He was also Tanzania’s ambassador to France.
According to Airtel Tanzania, Mwapachu brings a vast amount of boardroom experience to the company. He has served as the Chair of Boards for the Tanzania Investment Bank and Tanzania Railways Corporation.
Regarding his latest appointment, Mwapachu stated that: “I appreciate the opportunity to join Airtel’s Board of Directors, and, along with my fellow Board members and the management team, I will strive to build on the well-established strengths of the company and take Airtel Tanzania to higher heights of performance and customer satisfaction.”
Mwapachu holds a degree in law from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), post-graduate diploma in international law of Indian Academy of International Law and Diplomacy, New Delhi, India.
Mwapachu also holds two honorary doctoral degrees in literature and political sciences from UDSM and the National University of Rwanda respectively. This is according to allAfrica.com.
