The price hike did not only occur in Nigeria, but it also occurred in other African countries where MultiChoice holds a presence.

According to The Punch, MultiChoice Nigeria has placed the blame on inflation as the cause of the latest DStv price hike in Nigeria. According to a statement made available by DStv, it has taken into account many factors. Such factors, it said, included, “the impact on the subscriber, current inflation, and efficiencies effected within the company that may offset the necessity for a price increase.”

According to the company, the price hike did not only occur in Nigeria, but also in other African countries where MultiChoice holds a presence.

Multichoice Africa, the parent company of DStv, announced the price hike for DStv, which will take effect from 1 April 2015.

According to MultiChoice Africa, the price increase will see DStv premium, currently at USD 77 per month increase to USD 81 per month. The 5-10 percent increment will be implemented across the board.

MultiChoice Nigeria noted that there was no price increase last year. According to The Punch, DStv subscribers in the country have opposed the increase in tariffs, saying the move comes from a lack of competition on the market.
