Avelgood Apps is a mobile apps development firm based in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. According to the company, its apps have now been downloaded a cumulative 10 million times. Avelgood published its first app, a flashlight app, on Nokia Ovi Store in August 2012 and within 3 months, according to the company, the app had already been downloaded a million times.
Avelgood Apps CEO, Gift Gana, stated that: “We are excited to share that today we registered our 10 millionth download from all our apps across all app stores. This is a huge achievement only made possible through your support. Just want to say thanks a mil!”
Avelgood’ portfolio of app includes Lumina Flashlight Torch, Twigle Bird Song Id, BMI Calculator, IntelliTools, TV Size Calculator, AFCON 2013 Mobile App, Derivatives and Integrals and Metal Detector. The apps are published on Apple App Store, Windows Phone Store, Nokia Ovi Store and Opera Mobile Store.
The majority of downloads (8.8 million) were on the Nokia S40 and Asha & Symbian platforms on Ovi Store as shown in the chart below. This was followed by 1.16 million downloads on Opera Mobile Store where Avelgood won the Opera Top Apps Award 2013 for its BMI Calculator app in the Sport & Health category.
Avelgood Apps started publishing for iPhone and Windows Phone this year with their innovative audio recognition app for bird songs, Twigle Bird Song Id. The app is meant to help make it easy for people to identify birds. It records the song of a singing bird and tries to find the closest match. It pretty much for bird song what Shazam or SoundHound do for music recognition.
