According to reports, MultiChoice, an African Pay-TV provider, is looking to deliver its content over telecom networks.
According to Business Daily, MultiChoice has begun the search for broadband providers that could potentially carry its content over a fibre and copper connection.
During rainy seasons satellite providers tend to struggle with signal quality; however, a broadband connection may provide a more suitable environment in order to deliver content during heavy rain fall.
The shift in consumer preferences that has seen the rise in internet use to access home entertainment could also be one of the reasons behind the new DStv strategy. DStv, which has more than 200,000 subscribers on satellite, now wants to use new delivery technologies.
In order for the move to be successful, high-speed uncapped data services would be needed by consumers.
