This statement was made yesterday by the Managing Director, Huawei Mobile in Nigeria, Tony Liang. He said this was part of the company’s moves to expand its business operations in the country. He remarked that the smartphones would not just be qualitative; they would be affordable for Nigerians. The Director added that the company was working on developing trade partnerships that would help deepen the penetration of the phones in the country.

Speaking on their strategy, he said, “The phones come at affordable prices and the functions are good enough. This is why we are very strategic with how we push it into the Nigerian market. We need to find sales partners before we bring them into the country. We are in the process of signing on a credible trade partner so that the phones can be available at operator shops and open up more sales channels.

Liang stated that Huawei does not compromise on quality because it believes in the Nigerian market. It is committed to helping Nigerians improve their lifestyles and increase their communications. He admitted that the company had low brand visibility in Nigeria, and the phones are for end users and not for the open market. But plans are nearing completion to address the challenge.

According to the Director, the company hopes to address this challenge by increasing its “terminal coverage, open up sales channels and sign up strategic partnership agreement with credible operator shops as a way to maintain the quality of our phones.”
