Microsoft confident Gears of War 3 will be a blockbuster

Microsoft is so confident in the third-person shooter Gears of War 3, that the company has stated that it will be the biggest game to be released this year on the Xbox360. The third instalment of the franchise is due to be released in September.

“The thing about this E3, one of our key targets we want to hit is the blockbuster games that you want to play are on 360. The biggest platform exclusive franchise on any platform this year will be Gears of War,” said Microsoft’s corporate vice president Phil Spencer in an interview with OXM.

Comparing their first-party software to Sony’s PlayStation, Spencer added that they just work better in general. “If you look at how our 1st party franchises sell, how many play online, the breadth of experience and frankly the number of units sold, our franchises do incredibly well relative to Sony’s 1st party.”

Its rather strong words, considering Sony is yet to release their flagship titles Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3, but Gears of War 2 sold over 3-million units in the first month of its release.
