US ICT Delegation to visit Algeria

Must Read

A United States business delegation is expected in Algeria from May 22 through May 27 in order to look into potential investment opportunities, focusing on the non-hydrocarbons sector and information communications technology (ICT), a US Embassy official in Cairo said on Monday.

The visit is part of the US-Algeria Business Council (USABC) and Washington’s efforts to boost investment in the North African country, especially in the ICT sector, transportation and technology services for defense.

According to the embassy in Egypt, the program will include “meetings between the American executives and heads of Algeria’s national economic sector, as well as bilateral meetings in Algiers and Oran with members of the Algerian business community, public and private sectors, and with leaders of economic organizations, including the National Agency for Investment Development (ANDI), the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Business Leaders Forum and Oran’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.”

The significant level reached in recent years in economic relations between Algeria and the US has strengthened further thanks to the growing number of American businessmen who have been visiting Algeria and the volume of bilateral trade.

One Algerian IT analyst, Abdel Majid Abu Tarek, said that he believes the IT sector will benefit greatly from the visit and should help buttress the technology industry in Algeria.

“We have already seen a lot of growth in recent months and years and to have foreign investors here in the country could really do wonders to spurring development in these areas for the immediate future,” he said.
