Uganda’s “kwiktok” has analysts excited

The announcement by Uganda Telecom that it launched the “kwiktok” new promotion this week has analysts and experts excited that the industry is moving forward without being bogged down in a continued price war over service fees.

According to reports from the company, customers are able to have 100MB of free surfing data as part of an effort to increase customer relations.

“It’s pretty cool that they did this and I am sure that we will all enjoy it,” said one Ugandan while using their smart phone. “I often don’t use the data because it can become too expensive.”

The company said that Uganda Telecom customers are now able to have 20 free SMS and 10 minutes of free talking with the “kwiktok” promotion for a small fee of 250 shillings (US$0.11).

Analysts agree that the move is likely to see their existing customer base more pleased with the effort to deliver more services without massive extra costs.

“Uganda Telecom had been in a major downturn until recently and this move to supply customers with a much better service should do wonders to get the company back on track and increase its revenue and investment in the telecom sector in Uganda,” said one analyst.
