Three cabinet members resigned on Tuesday from Tunisia’s interim government, state radio reported.

Two of Tunisia’s leading opposition figures, Minister of Higher Education Ahmed Brahim and Minister of Local Development Ahmed Nejib El Chebbi, were among the three resigned, and the third is  Minister of Higher Education Faouzia Charfi.

This follows Monday’s resignations of Tunisia’s Industry and Technology Minister Afif Chelbi and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nouri Jouini which, in turn, were  prompted by interim Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi’s resignation on Sunday.

Protesters engaged in a sit-in in the Tunisian capital have been repeatedly calling for the resignation of the interim government and the formation of a constituent assembly.

On Monday, some 2,000 demonstrators assembled in front of the El Menzah sports hall in Tunis to call for a resumption of work and denounce the latest anti-government sit-in and acts of violence.
