American supplier of secure mobile messaging and applications, CellTrust Corporation announced the launch of SecureSMS Mobile Banking and Payment Pilot in the African region- developed in partnership with Nigerian solution provider for financial and banking institutions, Maxim-Pro.
CellTrust will secure and extend Maxim-Pro’s banking platform with mobile banking and payment services to under and un-banked populations. The pilot will allow users to make mobile transactions, such as payments and cash transfers and access microfinance banking products in a secured environment.
“Securing the mobile branchless banking value chain against fraud is a major challenge for the region. Microfinance banking institutions and cash agents will continue to play a major role in the successful implementation of the pilot and indeed the mobile branchless banking value chain”, explained CellTrust CEO Sean Moshir.
Samuel Ucheaga, Managing Director CellTrust of Africa, said that there is an increasing need for secured banking in Nigeria, with Central Bank officials currently legislating requirements for SecureSMS with multiple levels of authentication and encryption to reduce frauds.
CellTrust SecureSMS will provide end-to-end privacy on mobile devices via a highly encrypted, tamper-proof process, while enabling message sizes up to 5.000 characters. Users can wipe the handset if lost or stolen using a remote wipe functionality for better security. CellTrust’s application is a global enterprise appliance that offers secure SMS communication between handsets and enterprise applications. The solutions has been successfully implemented in more than 200 countries, for over 700 carriers.
