Two South Africans will be among the top texters of the LG Mobile World Cup 2010, scheduled to take place on the 12th – 15th of January 2010 in New York. 26 finalists from 13 countries will compete to prove their mobile texting skills based on speed and accuracy to win a total of $100 000 and claim the title as the world’s fastest texter.

Natalie Witoslowski (20) of Rustenberg and Kgothatso Moerane (22) of Pretoria will head to Manhattan to compete at the LG Mobile World Cup 2010 against two competitors from each of the other 12 competing countries – one in the numeric category and one from the QWERTY category.

“Texting is as, if not more, popular than voice communication nowadays. This competition will not only draw attention to texting as a popular, quick and easy communication tool, but also hopefully increase excitement about and familiarity with LG and its innovative handsets”, commented Michelle Potgieter, Marketing Director of LG Electronics South Africa.

Representing South Africa, Witoslowski won the national title of the competition in the numeric category, while Moerane impressed the jury with her fast typing in the QWERTY category. Both girls each won a grand prize of R30 000 and the title of national champion for LG Mobile World Cup 2009 South Africa.

“I can’t live without my phone, it is an extension of my life and I go crazy if I don’t have network. I am so excited to see New York and hope it lives up to what I have seen in The Devil Wears Prada”, exclaimed Moerane.

“Travelling the world has always been my dream and to be given a chance to go to New York is a dream come true! I feel so blessed and hope to bring another global crown back to South Africa”, said excited Witoslowski.

This year, countries like Russia, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa and Spain were able to participate for the first time in LG’s global competition.

The event will take place in New York, at famous Gotham Hall, a landmark building which once housed the Greenwich Savings Bank.
