Tanzania introduces WiMax for corporates

Tanzanian company Sasatel has launched WiMax high-speed Internet access for large businesses in Dar es Salaam, writes the country’s publication, The Citizen.

The operator, launched only last year, is looking to enhance its position on the wireless mobile communication market by facilitating a WiMax network in the capital city.

The investment costs will be lowered thanks to Sasatel’s connection to fibre optic cable Seacom.
“After launching our EVDO Internet services for small and medium-sized businesses in June last year, we launch WiMax Internet access to cater for Internet needs of Large Businesses and Corporate customers”, said products director Thomas Andre Molvig.

The officials added that there are no additional costs involved when switching to WiMax from the current LAN infrastructure.

The network will provide broadband wireless access up to 30 miles (50 km) for fixed stations and 3 to 10 miles (5 to 15 km) for mobile stations, at speeds varying from one megabit per second to 10 Mbps.

“Such speeds are achieved both uplink and downlink with dedicated bandwidth directly onto the Seacom cable”, added Molvig.

To support large businesses in the country, Sasatel will provide the new service with dedicated bandwidth, an online-bandwidth monitoring tool and unlimited usage at a fixed monthly fee.
