Global leader and technology innovator in consumer electronics, LG introduced new innovations at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, with a focus on making broadcast content more accessible through mobile digital television and 3D TV.

“This year LG is focusing on key innovations including 3D TV, mobile digital television, and our new solar cell business”, announced Dr. Woo Paik, President and Chief Technology Officer at the LG Electronics CES news conference in Las Vegas.

He said that 2010 will create new opportunities for 3D technology across a wide range of products such as LED TVs, Plasma TVs, as well as projectors.

“Most of the TVs LG will bring to market this year are wireless-ready with the addition of online connectivity and entertainment options plus DivX functionality to enable the screens to play back a wider range of multimedia content through a broadband network”, explained Paik.

LG’s full line of LED LCD HDTVs led by INFINIA, an innovative new family of LED HDTVs includes the LE9500, LE8500 and LE7500 series that combine slim design with seamless connectivity and limitless content options.

The company also introduced the DP570MH mobile digital television (DTV), which offers DVD playback based on the new mobile DTV broadcast standard co-developed by LG.

The next phase for LG is launching mobile phones and portable DVD players, set up with chips capable of receiving broadcast signals in North America. 88 stations in the US have started mobile DTV broadcasting, with 45% viewers and an increasing demand on the roll.

Another innovation field on LG’s radar is the solar cell business. In December 2009, LG opened a production line with a total capacity of 120-megawatts. “LG will double the production capability for the solar cell business by next year, aiming to achieve gigawatt capacity within years”, said Paik.

So far, LG showcased its latest smart phones moves in 2010, featuring LG eXpo (LG GW820) with Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5, the Android-based LG GW620 and LG GT540, the last two designed specifically for social networking on Facebook and Twitter.

As a complete innovation, LG highlighted its Wireless Charger, the first to offer simultaneous cable-free recharging for up to three mobile devices. The handsets are simply placed on a pad to recharge and phone calls can be made during the process.
