Deadline for NITEL’s privatization extended

[/caption]The submission of proposals for the privatization of the Nigerian Telecommunications company (NITEL) and its mobile division, M-TEL, has been extended from January 22 to February 5, 2010, according to Nigerian publication- Leadership.

The decision follows the prospective investors’ pleas for an extension during the pre-bid conference held in Abuja on January 14.

“Bidders are expected to submit their bids between 22nd January and 5th February 2010”, commented the director-general of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Dr. Christopher Anyanwu.

So far, 14 investors have agreed to continue the privatization discussions, among them MTN Nigeria, Etisalat Nigeria, Globacom Nigeria and Telefonica.

Pre-qualified investors have already paid a non-refundable fee of $25 000 for bidding documents and executed the confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement.
