virgin_mobile_logo_01.JPGJohannesburg (IT News Africa)-GLOBAL recession has sent many corporate entities under, but South Africa’s communication giant Virgin Mobile has survived the storm and continues to pursue its fresh telecommunication industry strategies.

Melanie Kidson, head of marketing at Virgin Mobile, told IT News Africa the company was on course to meet its set objectives for the year, in its provision of “a revolutionary approach to service”.

She said in the recessionary times, Virgin Mobile has opted to stick to its strategy determined at the beginning of the year, that of “focusing both on our primary target and our key strengths, which are offering customers the best value for money”.

Kidson said during recession, people need telecommunication services more than ever before.

“It (telecommunication) is very often a lifeline for someone who cannot afford to commute. All the networks are continuously developing products to suit a wide variety of needs. Telecommunications has become a necessity, not a luxury,” she said.

Kidson expressed confidence in the corporate relationship they have fostered with another South African network, Cell C, saying, “we are reliant on the technology that our network partner develops”.

She, however, highlighted that the company was not engaging in any expansion programmes at the moment.

Virgin Mobile believes that signs of an economic turnaround are evident.
