Johannesburg (IT News Africa) Telecel Zimbabwe has embarked on a $40 million network expansion programme, The Herald said on Thursday.
The country’s third mobile operator is targeting 950 000 new subscribers by year end which prompted the expansion plans. The company currently has 350 000 subsribers.
The newspaper said funding of the project came from Orascom which hold 51% stake in Telecel. Orascom technician are said to be already in Harare working on the first phase which is expected to be complete by September.
The company’s acting Managing Director, Rex Chibesa, confirmed the plans without giving details of the project. Equipment for the project has been sorced from Siemens and Hauwei.
