Vodacom once again presents soccer extravaganza

South African mobile network provider Vodacom has once again funded the Vodacom Challenge football tournament, set to kick off on 18 July 2009.

The Vodacom Challenge tournament features two local football giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, with the third slot being filled by English premiership club Manchester City.

Announcing the fixtures ahead of the tournament was South Africa Premier Soccer League (PSL) Chairman Irvin Khoza, who said Orlando Pirates will kick off against Manchester City on July 18, at a venue to be announced soon.

Says Khoza: “This is part of football development in South Africa ahead of the Confederations Cup and FIFA 2010 World Cup. As administrators of football, we should thank Vodacom for the sponsorship.”

Manchester City was represented at the ceremony by club’s executive chair, Gary Cook while Kaizer Chiefs was represented by Kaizer Motaung.
