SA court says yes to Telkom, Ericsson contract

In South Africa, the Gauteng North High Court has rejected an application for an interdict prohibiting Telkom from proceeding with the implementation of a contract awarded to Ericsson, brought by Maredi, an unsuccessful bidder for the same tender.

The contract is for the provision of point-to-point split mount radio equipment to Telkom. Says Jonas Stringberg, Acting Director Ericsson market unit sub-Saharan Africa: “We are, obviously, delighted with the court’s findings. It is a great relief that it is now over and we look forward to continuing to support Telkom in every way we can.”

Ericsson and Telkom have a working relationship spanning more than 25 years. Ericsson is keen to put the matter behind it and has reiterated its commitment to South Africa’s mobile future.

“We are particularly excited about the opportunity to showcase our technological prowess during the 2010 World Cup through our ongoing work with partners such as Telkom and our global multimedia agreement with FIFA,” concludes Stringberg.
