Virgin Mobile head of marketing, Melanie Kidson, said her mobile phone company is aiming at keeping pace with technological advances by offering its consumers the latest benefits of both handset and network technology.

“We will however, always retain our hallmark approach of combining the practical with the affordable, and our product innovations this year will continue to offer consumers the very best in mobile communications,” said Kidson.

Kidson expressed her company’s ambitions of expanding its clientele base this year by on-setting of a renewed focus on the post-paid segment of the market.

“Over the past two years, we have had a successful track record in terms of acquiring and serving consumers within the contract space, and it is our intention to exponentially increase our customer base this year,” she said.

Although Virgin Mobile is yet to offer technologies such as the use of 3G and 4G, the country’s fourth mobile service provider feels that technology is evolving in leaps and bounds and says it is the company’s intention to extract the technology from its value propositions, aiming simply at offering consumers the communication services that meet their needs, in a way that obviates the need to learn obscure acronyms and detailed technological specifications.

Kidson told ITNewsAfrica that Virgin Mobile does not offer 3G services to its consumer base at this stage, as it was the company’s intention to focus solely on ensuring that the mobile cellular company offered a quality voice and data experience to its consumers.

“The first Virgin Mobile operation launched in the UK (United Kingdom) in 1999 and, with five million customers, is among the top performers in the world. Virgin Mobile has more than three million customers in the US. Virgin Mobile South Africa is a product of this global revolution,” said Kidson–ITNewsAfrica.
