The Vanguard Media Ltd in Nigeria has reported that IDC; a global provider of market intelligence, predicts that the mobile phone market will experience a downturn in 2009 due to the world economic crisis
According to Vanguard, IDC says the mobile market experienced double digit annual growth but due to the economic situation the total mobile phone volumes will be 1.9 percent lower in 2009 than 2008. IDC says that they expect year-over-year decrease due to the declining global economy.
They do not expect the downturn to stretch past 2009 into 2010, but rather show an improvement if economic recovery plans take effect. Even though the mobile market experiences a downturn, not all facets of the mobile phone market will take a plunge.
They added that mobile devices such as smartphones, will experience a growth of 8.9 percent during 2009. They feel confident that after 2009 the mobile phone market will return to its double digit territory.
