Telkom supports AJAX Cape Town

reuben_septemberUSE.jpgSOUTH Africa’s biggest landline operator, Telkom reiterated its support to sport in South Africa by awarding R4,25 million Rands to Premier league club Ajax cape Town.

This follows the Cape Town’s winning the Telkom Knockout, a tournament the company introduced in 2006.


Ajax beat Orlando pirates 2-1 in a match played in Durban.

“The Telkom Knockout sponsorship announcement in October 2006 launched a whole new chapter in the Premier Soccer League. Back then, the Telkom Knockout offered a generous prize pot of R 4.25 million rand to the winners of the competition, which was a new benchmark for soccer competitions on the continent,” said Telkom.

The company said the tournament had been a success.

“The Telkom Knockout further spearheaded the trend of big money flowing into football in South Africa and boasts a phenomenal relationships with the Premier Soccer League by sponsoring not just one, but two of the soccer calendar’s most exciting competitions. In fact the tournament has been PSL premium soccer property which has enjoyed overwhelming success since its inception two years ago.”

The country’s 16 topflight teams participate in the annual tournament that runs for two months.
