SOUTH Africa has been named as one of the best export opportunities for the United Kingdom’s technology firms.
South Africa, which is arguably Africa’s strongest economy, was late last week named as one of the countries in which the United Kingdom clean technology firms should take their products, as they bid to penetrate the international market.
Other countries named in the report made available to CAJ News over the weekend include Australia, Brazil, China, India,Turkey and the USA.
The report revealed that the global market for environmental goods and services is expected to grow by over 30 percent to US$688billion by 2010, the year in which South Africa will host its historic World Cup.
The study from government-backed advisory body UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) claims that green firms in the UK have huge export potential in the above countries, said to be the most promising potential markets.
According to Michael Ward, the Director for environment and infrastructure at UKTI, the United State is the largest potential market for UK clean tech exporters, while South Africa is one of the emerging markets to be targetted, as it has also signalled its support for clean tech investment.
