Safaricom has won two awards at the inaugural AfricaCom Awards 2008, held Tuesday evening in Cape Town.
The firm’s money transfer service, M-PESA scooped the two awards, namely Rural Services Award and Changing Lives Award.
Held at the International Convention Centre in South Africa, the inaugural AfricaCom Awards 2008 recognized the outstanding achievements of the African telecommunications market.
The Awards have been designed to recognize the achievements and success within the African communications market during the last 12 months.
“It is great that we have won two awards at the esteemed AfricaCom Awards 2008. I would like to thank our staff for their hard work and to all our subscribers for believing in us”, Chief Executive Officer Mr Michael Joseph said as he received the awards.
Joseph attributed the win to the firm’s innovative products and services, positive contribution to the society, role in transforming perceptions of Africa in global markets and displaying high standards of good corporate citizenship.
In July this year, Safaricom was nominated for the prestigious CBC-African Business Awards 2008 in association with the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC).
