NIGERIA Telecommunications (Nitel) has appointed veteran communications expert, Engineer Timasaniyu Ahmed-Rufai, as its new non-executive director and one of the board members in the telephone provider utility.

According to Nigeria board chairman, Tom Iseghohi, Rufai will bring in vast knowledge, the much-needed experience and wealth of expertise to Nitel board of directors, and is expected to help transform the company’s operations in revenue generation as well as reaching out to the communities that are yet to benefit from telephone landlines and latest technology.

Rufai is the managing director of Nigeria Communications Satellite (NiComSat) Limited.

“We are particularly pleased with his training, wealth of experience and the capacity of the company he represents, which we are certain will further enhance our repositioning exercise to make Nitel more successful and better disposed to offer enhanced quality service delivery to all its customers,” said Iseghohi.

The Nitel board chairman also noted that the presence of Rufai on the Nitel board would help Nigerian clients enjoy a combination of satellite transmission capacity of NigComSat, acquire affordable broadband service delivery to the internet service providers, as well as the private telecommunications operators.

Speaking at the same ceremony, the managing director of Nitel, Kevin Caruso, said Rufai’s appointment would help revamp the national carrier in generating more revenue and help the company maintain its dominance in Nigeria and West Africa in general.
