Microsoft SA improving community ICT skills, create jobs

MICROSOFT South Africa has pledged to improve communities’ Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills, create more jobs and accelerate economic growth in the country.

“We believe that by encouraging the availability and support of affordable secondary PCs in South Africa, we can provide the technology resources that ultimately improve the community’s ICT skills, create jobs and accelerate economic competitiveness,” said Micrososft SA managing director Mteto Nyathi.

This follows the launch of Microsoft’s Secondary PC programme, which recently received a boost after six local computer refurbishment partners joined.

The companies are Bridgeport Technical Services, Device South Africa, Just PCs, Mico South Africa, Pax Computers and Sylvara Technologies.

Microsoft’s Secondary PC programme also seeks to help refurbishers grow their business by providing marketing support and access to tools that simplify Windows XP deployment on refurbished PCs.

“There is a significant market for refurbished PCs in households and small businesses in South Africa,” Mteto added.
