Africa to exploit Internet Global Forum in Egypt

AFRICA will be hoping to exploit the forthcoming Internet Global Forum (IGF) in the Egyptian capital, Cairo early next year, to push their agenda for the advancement of technology on the continent.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a renowned organization with offices in Nigeria, has encouraged Africa to make significant and meaningful contributions at the forum with a view to enhance their technological advancement in the use and management of the internet.

The Cairo conference is for Information Technology (IT) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) experts and ministers, and seeks to assist Africa to embrace modern technology.

ICANN is known throughout the world for providing global coordination of the internet’s system of unique identifiers such as domain names of organisations, museum and country codes.

Once described as “dark continent”, Africa is eager to make its presence felt globally in almost all aspects of science and technology, internet research and management, mobile and telecommunications systems.
The actual dates of the conference are yet to be announced, but big names in technology on the continent such as South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and Zimbabwe, have already confirmed their participation.
