Abuja, Nigeria set to host ICT seminar on Tuesday

NIGERIAN government is set to host a seminar on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the capital Abuja on Tuesday next week, with a view to improve technology in the less privileged communities.

The seminar, organized by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), is aimed at bringing in the much needed technology to the federal government with secure, integrated and pervasive ICT infrastructure, particularly to the marginalized communities.

Although the seminar is mainly targeting directors and managers whose responsibilities include overseeing ICT systems, the government’s prime aim is to ensure its objectives of initiating strategic and cohesive approach to the acquisition and deployment of secure and integrated technology infrastructure platform towards driving better socio-economic development, is successful.

Nigeria is one of the leading nations in Africa, among them South Africa, Egypt, Kenya and Zimbabwe, which is striving to ensure its citizens move with the rest of the world technologically.

According to Yusuf Kazaure, the chief business operations executive at Galaxy Backbone Plc recently, the one-day seminar will help address critical issues such as acquisition and deployment of ICT to the relevant communities by the Federal Government Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).

The first workshop of similar nature was hosted in July, and next week’s interactive forum comes at a time the government has intensified efforts to ensure technology reaches all communities if ever the country’s economy is to move forward.

“The seminar is to help put in place our stakeholders’ programmes creating the awareness of the objective of the government from which the company derives its mission as well as an engagement model designed to meet the requirements of the MDAs.

“Galaxy also develops solutions that help MDAs and other customers to better utilise its shared infrastructure and realise the benefits of ICTs,” said Kazaure.

Galaxy is also in the process of rolling out a shared ICT infrastructure platform known as 1-Gov.net, which consists of a national Internet Protocol (IP) Backbone and Internet Data Centre infrastructure through which it offers connectivity, data centre and other ICT infrastructure services for government MDAs
