Nigeria’s Spatial Technologies gets recognition

Spatial Technologies Ltd –Nigeria’s foremost mapping and Geographic Intelligence solution provider and the recipient of the prestigious 2008 RIMA Foundation award today announced that it was engaged by Information Connectivity Solutions Ltd (ICSL) to implement a geographic intelligence solution that will further confirm ICSL’s dominant position in the Information Communication and Technology sector of Nigerian economy.

ICSL is a premium provider of managed satellite services providing network infrastructure Solutions, connecting their client’s remote offices wherever they are in Nigeria to their headquarters.

Realizing that geography underpins over 75% of all its technical and strategic decisions, ICSL will use this solution in its technical planning and optimization initiatives to facilitate ongoing enhancement of quality and content especially within Lagos, Abuja and Porthacourt. This Geographic Information System (GIS) solution will particularly assist ICSL in conducting provisional site analysis with confidence and accuracy expected of a world class solution provider.

This project will involve integrating geographic intelligence into ICSL’s technical and strategic planning to support informed business and technical decisions in its operation. Under this contract, STL will supply accurate geo-referenced digital street map of Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Sokoto, Portharcourt, Nigeria’s transport network data and Nigeria’s 2006 demographic mapping data.

STL in its role as the integrator will provide ongoing enhancements, support and maintenance lasting a few months after the solution is delivered. STL will also provide intensive GIS training for ICSL’s staff. The project will employ well-proven technology platforms – MapInfo Professional. MapInfo products are standard and well recognised in the GIS field in Nigeria, North America, Europe and the rest of the world.

Sam Talbot, ICSL’s Chief Technical Officer said: “The proposal by STL was judged to be the best bid in our tender, especially in terms of quality and pricing. STL’s geographic solution meets our control requirements for efficiency, and furthermore it will enable direct integration and sharing of our spatial data and information with our current and future systems within Nigeria”

Sam is an engineer with more than 30years experience in the Telecommunications experience. He has spent more than 15years in Africa helping to expand and harden networks. Most recently he helped to deploy the first WIMAX technology in Morocco.

Some of our consulting staff who received their training at MapInfo’s European headquarter at Windsor, UK boast of a combined 15years hands-on experience working in such big Telecom companies like MTN Nigeria (a member of MTN Group –Africa’s largest telecommunication company) and Globacom.
