Most mass market phones now come with multimedia

Even mass market handsets have become true entertainment devices as more than four out of five phones coming equipped with a camera and an MP3 player, according to latest data for Gfk.

Mobile Today, a UK news website on mobile phones, said, 82% of phones sold in July came with an MP 3 player, up from just over 75% the previous year

Similarly, over 80% of phones that were sold in July came with a camera and close to a quarter of all the phones had a five-megapixel camera.

Megapixels are major a selling point for retail staff and three manufacturers, Samsung, LG and Sony Ericsson are taking advantage of customer demand for better cameras in phones by launching eight-megapixel phones in time for the Christmas market.
