Steinmüller Engineering Services (Pty) Ltd., part of a leading group of international engineering companies, offering a wide range of plant life cycle services to various industries, has partnered with Integr8 IT to power up its IT capability and technical resources in order to manage the pressure of rapid growth.
The name Steinmüller Engineering Services is synonymous with the roll out and supply of services to the heavy duty industry operator market, including coal and fossil-fired power stations, industrial plants, offshore chemical and petro-chemical plants, as well as steelmaking facilities.
Management at the engineering specialist company has confirmed that an ongoing upward trend in IT resource usage had placed strain on existing infrastructure and that the use of multiple directory solutions only amplified the costs and complexity of adapting to change. The decision was made to implement MS Windows Server 2003 AD as the platform to support a single directory system.
Steinmüller Engineering chose to outsource components of their AD implementation to Integr8 IT, South Africa’s largest privately owned national BEE ICT network integration and infrastructure management specialist.
Lebo Mutloane, IT manager at Steinmüller, has confirmed that the motivation to acquire specialist services from Integr8 IT stemmed from the need to replace disparate business administration processes and create an enhanced working environment to bolster client service.
“The main reason for implementing AD was to ensure that we manage our resources efficiently and effectively whilst deriving other benefits from an AD environment like improved data management and access to/use of business intelligence tools,” she said.
Integr8 IT was selected as the IT partner of choice for Steinmüller due to its proven track record in the integration, management and optimization of environments using leading, state-of-the-art technology from global vendors.
In addition the company has always placed a premium on the validity and credibility of its intellectual capital. This unwavering commitment to solicit and retain the latest available skills base has earned the company industry-wide recognition.
“We were brought on board to assist in the role out and integration of a single sign-on system in the form of a common directory system. In addition the company required a number of technology services that would enhance individual performance and general operation,” explains Bennie Strydom, sales director at Integr8 IT.
These technical services included a change in e-mail system which would result in a desktop organizer facility, secure and managed Internet access and the means to automate workflow processes.
The deployment resulted in the company’s ability to leverage off Active Directory, as well as Microsoft Exchange and ISA Server.
According to correspondence from Steinmüller the company will soon begin rolling out SharePoint to meet the demand for Data Management System (DMS), Business Intelligence and Workflow Management.
“We are pleased to be a part of this high tech rejuvenation of existing infrastructure at a leading global company. Steinmüller Engineering Services continues to demonstrate what can be achieved through the strategic investment in technology combined with the skills, acumen and experience of an established, recognized partner,” adds Strydom.
