Globacom Extends Roaming Services to 140 Countries

Glo Gateway, a subsidiary of Globacom Limited, has declared an expansion of its roaming services to more than 140 countries globally, along with the interconnectivity of 235 networks.
Glo Gateway head Charles Odiase disclosed the news in a press statement and said the development gives the company the largest roaming footprint for voice and data in Africa.

Odiase further stated that Glo’s data roaming for mobile phones, laptops and BlackBerry handsets, otherwise known as GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) roaming, is growing quickly, having spread to 72 networks in 29 countries.

With the voice roaming service, Glo Mobile subscribers who travel to any of the 140 countries will be able to make and receive calls on their local phone numbers, said Odiase. GPRS roaming additionally enables the subscriber to access the Value Added Services (VAS) available on Glo GPRS technology, such as MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service), Magic Plus, Glo Mobile Internet, Glo Direct, Glo Fleet Manager, Glo M-Banking and Glo Mobile Office.

Odiase stressed that the subsidiary has established interconnection with more than 700 networks worldwide to provide international SMS (short messaging service), thereby making it possible for Glo Mobile subscribers to send and receive SMS in virtually every country in the world.

“These developments align with our leadership position in the industry,” Odiase said. “Glo Gateway’s footprints transcend all the continents. We have presence in all major hubs to enable our subscribers who travel for commerce, tourism and religious purposes to be able to stay in touch through their Glo phones.”
