Celtel Kenya appoints new CEO

A new chief executive is set to take over at Celtel Kenya from next month, it was announced on Tuesday. The firm said the new CEO together with a marketing director will join the group to complete a managerial transformation effected by the telephony company, the second largest mobile telephone provider in the country.

Communication Director, Mr Michael Okwiri confirmed to The Standard the expected changes, saying they are part of the group’s strategy to be a leading player in the mobile telephony industry.

“We have put in place plans that include international training for our key employees,” said Okwiri.

Okwiri said Zain Group, the Kuwait-based majority owners of the company, as part of its long-term commitment service, had reorganised the management in Celtel Kenya.

He said Celtel Kenya had sufficient manpower to run two operations benchmarked against 22 others of its peers outside the group.
