Following a trade mission to South Africa last week, Irish mobile services company ChangingWorlds has signed a deal with the country’s biggest mobile operator, Vodacom, to supply intelligent content discovery and subscriber intelligence for its mobile internet infrastructure.
Vodafone has 50pc ownership in Vodacom, which has 23 million customers and roughly a 58pc market share in the South African market. Although an exact figure was not disclosed, the deal is worth a seven figure sum.

Using patented ClixSmart technology from the University College Dublin spin-out company, Vodacom will improve its Vodafone Live! user experience.

ChangingWorlds is already a global company working with big clients including Vodafone, O2, T-mobile, Swisscom and Mobilkom Austria.

Recently, the company has made the move into Asia and North America, a “successful move”, says ChangingWorlds CEO David Moran, and one that means it is “correctly identified as a global company”.

On signing the deal, Vincent Ryan, VP of international sales and marketing for ChangingWorlds said, “This business mission, expertly organised by Enterprise Ireland, is an ideal opportunity to get government-level endorsement and strengthen relationships with existing partners and clients in South Africa.

“We have a long-term relationship with Vodacom and we are delighted that our latest deal with Vodacom coincides with the visit of the Taoiseach and Minister Micheál Martin to South Africa to promote Irish business.”

ChangingWorld’s will also be one of the 20 mobile software and services companies heading out as part of an Irish delegation with Enterprise Ireland to the Mobile World Congress, 3GSM 2008, taking place in Barcelona next month.
