Corel Corporation has announced an agreement whereby Corel has acquired InterVideo, a provider of multimedia DVD software.

This, in turn, means that Workgroup has expanded its Corel offering to the local channel.
The first product highlighted locally through Workgroup as a result of this agreement is WinDVD 8 Gold Edition, a DVD and playback software package that allows users to enjoy crystal clear, smooth playback of standard and HD video and audio discs.
Movie buffs, frequent flyers and anyone who enjoys watching movie clips on a PC will enjoy the WinDVD 8 digital entertainment
experience, says Kevin George, Corel product manager at Workgroup.

Users are now able to watch their favourite videos on their home theatre systems, desktops or laptops, he says. WinDVD 8 Gold allows users to stream content through UpnP home networks to view DVDs or video files on big-screen HDTV with immersive surround sound.

He says that universal format support means users can watch virtually anything on the desktop and laptop users can enhance their viewing time with power-saving features and adjustable settings.

WinDVD 8 Gold features advanced playback technologies that deliver an improved viewing experience, including Intel Clear Video and nVidia PureVideo graphics acceleration, Intel Core 2 Duo support and Progressive De-Interlacing.

Furthermore, custom audio and video effects like Cinema Enhancement, Sharpness and SmartStretch put the user in control of their viewing experience.

Users can also choose to keep their viewing habits private with the Boss Key, which pops the WinDVD 8 player off the screen
with one click, says George. They can also personalise the look of their players with Color Themes that match their moods or their desktops and Instant Replay allows them to catch that action sequence at the touch of a button.
