Nigeria: Mobile internet users up by 13.6 percent

Mobile internet users in Nigeria grew by 13.6 percent in the first half of 2015 to 92.6 million, according to the latest report from the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) – which was revealed by TelecomPaper.

The reports revealed that MTN Nigeria continues to lead the market segment, with Etisalat Nigeria adding the most customers in period.


According to the report, Etisalat increased its mobile data subscriptions from 10 million in January to 15.2 million at the end of June, representing an increase of 5.2 million or 52 percent. Airtel Nigeria came second, growing from 14.9 million in January to 17.5 million in June, equal to growth of 17.4 percent.

Globacom was in third position in terms of growth, increasing its total from 17.6 million in January to 19.3 in June. MTN recorded the lowest number of additional mobile internet users on its network, adding about 1.3 million in the six months to reach a total 40.4 million.
