Benin Telecoms has officially commenced its 4G rollout. The reveal was made at an event attended by president Yayi Boni. Benin will be the fourth country in the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) to adopt LTE, after Nigeria, Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire, this is according to local newspaper Matin Libre.
According to the report, MTN Benin and Etisalat Benin have been experimenting with 3G for three years. Benin Telecoms CEO Djalil Assouma said that LTE will allow farmers in remote locations to sell products all over the world, entrepreneurs and students to create online businesses and sell services from home, and young artists and music lovers to download a song track in under 1 second or 1 hour of video in under 1 minute.
Benin Telecom also used the announcement to inaugurate a PoP and a single window system for customers to access all of its services.
