The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) is set to increase the amount payable, for fines paid by telco operators, for poor Quality of Service (QoS).
According to the authority operators that do not comply, or fail to meet the set quality standards that the authority has implemented, may be subjected to a fine.
According to CA Director-general Francis Wangusi, the current fine standards are far too lenient. Wangusi continued by saying that lower fine rates have essentially failed to make operators comply.
Wangusi added that the regulator has put a proposal before the board to increase the penalties to either 0.1 percent of the operator’s gross revenue or 0.2 percent. The new penalties will come into force once the management gets approval from the board.
