Vodafone Egypt investing $1.3bn on network upgrade

Vodafone Egypt is expected to invest a figure of LE9.5 billion ($1.3 billion) in order to improve its network.

According to the recently appointed Chief Executive, Ahmed Essam: “The investment shall be financed from an existing fund of Vodafone Egypt, which is owned by Vodafone UK and Telecom Egypt .”

According to ventures-africa.com, Vodafone is also checking the possibilities of offering land-line services, which is expected to cost LE100 million ($13.9 million).

The telecommunication unified license will allow mobile operators to provide both fixed line and mobile network services. Telecom Egypt currently has a monopoly of the fixed line market.

Vodafone Egypt, Etisalat Egypt and Mobinil are the three existing mobile service providers.
