In a move to help university students better manage their student tuition fees and other university related finances, mobile service provider MTM Cameroon this week launched a Mobile Money payment system for academic institutions.
According to the company, the Mobile Money service will allow students to pay all fees and tuition.
“The Mobile Money service makes it possible for students to pay their fees without having to stand in long queues at university campuses,” said the company in a press release.
“A Mobile Money account number is assigned to each school,” it added, and “if necessary, the student can get a receipt of payment at an MTN agency.”
The payment of registration fees via Mobile Money was successfully tested at the University of Buea last year. The service is now available for all public universities and colleges that have signed a contract with MTN Cameroon.
The move has been welcomed by both university administrators as well as telecommunications experts, who argue that it will enable better management of students’ money and their schooling fees.
