South African mobile service provider MTN announced today that their current Group Chief Financial Officer has resigned with immediate effect.

“Shareholders are advised that Nazir Patel, the Group Chief Financial Officer and executive financial director on the Board of Directors of MTN Group (“the Board”), resigned yesterday with immediate effect,” MTN Group said in a statement.
According to the statement sent to press, “Patel explained to the Company that he does not wish his continued employment with the Company to prejudice the Company in respect of certain allegations made against him, which are subject to an ongoing investigation which had been commissioned by the Company.”
No details on the nature of the allegations have been made public at this time.
Replacing Patel will be Brett Goschen, who has been appointed as Group Chief Financial Officer and executive financial director on the Board, with immediate effect.
“Goschen joined the Group as Chief Financial Officer of MTN Nigeria in 2002. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana in 2006 and returned to MTN Nigeria as Chief Executive Officer in 2011. The Board is confident that Goschen has the appropriate expertise and experience for his new role,” MTN explained.
