In an effort to continue to deliver more options and better service to rural areas of Uganda, Airtel Uganda has launched its latest product, Airtel Zone. The hope is that customers in the north and Midwest regions will be able benefit from discounts on their local calls.

“On-net calls will have a discount of up to 99 percent while calls to other networks get up to a 40 percent discount,” the company said in announcing Airtel Zone, the latest promotion being pushed by the telecom operator.
Airtel Uganda’s CEO VG Somasekhar said customers “will be able to call for much less and save a lot more on local calls than has previously been possible.”
Somasekhar continued to say that “Airtel appreciates that these regions form a large percentage of the bread basket of Uganda and that communication is a key aspect of business.”
It comes on the heels of Airtel’s recently launched new partnership with the online journal UGO to provide all its customers with free local content, including news and local information.
Somasekhar also said “there is a 50 percent bonus on all Airtel Internet packages [within the new package].”
