Service disruption to Altech Kenya Data Networks

Altech Kenya Data Networks (KDN) experienced service disruptions from 11.00am to 12.30 pm on 17 May caused, it is believed, by power failures occuring in most parts of the country.

The problem affected transmission equipment as some customers lost Internet and SEACOM services.

KDN added that its engineers were successful in restoring services and are working to ensure that the problem does not re-occur.

KDN is a Data Communications Carrier that operates microwave radio and fiber optic networks. They have also deployed the largest fiber optic network in the region.

The company”s services include: Internet Protocol (IP) services, broadband transport, infrastructure services and collocation services.

Allied Technologies Limited (Altech) is a leading South African communications service provider offering Internet connectivity, networked services, and cloud and VoIP services across a broad range of infrastructure.

Recently Altech increased their shares in Kenya Data Networks Limited (KDN) from 51% to 60.8%. The aim was to extend the KDN fibre optic network so that KDN could maintain their status as the  key service provider of broadband services in the East Africa region.
