Namibia’s Communication Regulatory Authority (CRAN) will investigate a case of band spectrum frequencies interference after MTC Namibia launched their trial run of 4G.
Since the start of the trial, MTC has received reports of alleged frequency interference in the 4G trial testing areas. CRAN reiterated the importance of conducting frequency audits before issuing spectrum licences.
“Further to the provision of telecommunications services, spectrum licences are crucial. Spectrum is a scarce resource and in high demand, especially the portion of the spectrum which MTC applied for,” CRAN said in statement.
“Spectrum that is high in demand must be efficiently managed by CRAN and cannot simply be issued at an ad hoc, first-come first-served basis. It should be defined by a well-supported and well-defined allocation and assignment strategy,” they added.
According to The Namibian, “The biggest benefit of 4G is that it will be ten times faster than the current 3G network speeds, enabling cellphones and wireless data connection users to do things faster and enjoy quality media such video and audio on internet protocols.”
