CAIRO: More than 80% of Egyptians will start 2011 with mobile phones, revealed the latest figures by the Egyptian Ministry of Telecommunications. The figures also showed that mobile subscriptions grew by nearly 25 percent during 2010.
According to the ministry’s website, subscriptions in October were 65.5 million, a rise of over 12.5 million, or 23.6 percent, from the same time in 2009.
In October 2009, Egypt had 52.98 million subscribers between three mobile operators, Etisalat Egypt, Mobinil, and Vodafone Egypt.
According to previous statements by Egypt’s telecommunications regulator, Egypt is looking into options for a fourth mobile provider.
